Expressions of interest now open
Whai Manawa housing is a new 3 and 4-bedroom housing development in Regent, Whangārei, created to increase access to quality, secure and affordable housing for whānau connected to our rohe.
Expressions of interest to rent one of these whare are now open, and will close at midnight on Sunday 8 October 2026.
Applicants must be:
18 years or age or older
Uri of Ngāti Whātua
Able to provide evidence of whānau need for affordable long term housing
Currently living in the Whangārei district

Whai Manawa Housing is an iwi-led housing initiative of Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Whātua.
Through consultations with Te Parawhau and Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Whātua, Tiongongo Whānau Housing is a response to the housing crisis currently experienced by uri residing in the Whangārei District.
Developed by Whai Manawa this kaupapa has been established to create affordable, high-quality homes for Ngāti Whātua whānau while strengthening whakapapa, whenua and future connections generations.
These urban kāinga has been created so that:
whānau have access to secure and affordable housing, health, education and job opportunities.
tamariki can grow up in a safe and warm communal environment
whānau remain connected across generations
neighbours support one another - Manaakitanga, Whanaungatanga and Kaitiakitanga are the cornerstones within the community
future generations inherit a place with a strong sense of identity and belonging.
