Kapai Jeanette Nathan, Cath Rameka and May Pivac from Te Hā Oranga for pulling this fabulous day off for our kaumātua. Here are some highlights from Jeanette: It was a glorious day yesterday celebrating 10 years of our Te Hā Oranga Annual Picnic. The kaumātua in attendance have grown in the past 10 years to an attendance yesterday of close to 70 kaumātua represented from 3 sites Wellsford / Te Awaroa and Dargaville. Eldest kaumātua present was Matua Trevor Bowater 93 years old. Also, Whaea Martha and Whaea Wikitoria of 89 years old. It is a wonderful opportunity for our kaumātua to gather in a relaxed kauapapa . I believe we need to nurture our kaumātua as they are the essence of our Māori Comminuty and they love gathering together. All who attended, enjoyed the BBQ mussel fritters, a koura, a variety of salads and a wonderful selection of seasoned fruit, trifle and a selection of sweet slices. They all enjoyed an ice cream in a cone at the end of the day. Shared stories of their experiences in the Kaipara, enjoyed singing and laughing. All look forward to next years picnic. Mauri Ora
