No Waitangi Day event at Okahu Bay

The Waitangi Day festival staged by Ngati Whatua at Okahu Bay for the past four years will not take place this year.

Ngati Whatua spokesperson Arepa Morehu said the iwi was heavily committed to Rugby World Cup 2011, which absorbed a lot of energy and sponsorship funding.

Waitangi Day events taking place around Auckland include Toi o Manukau Waitangi Day Celebrations 2012 in Flat Bush, Summer Sounds featuring The Black Seeds in Henderson and Muriwai Waitangi Day Festival 2012.

Plans for a later celebration in March are being considered by Ngati Whatua.
