Manaakitanga

Manaakitanga First Principles.

The Rūnanga is developing three 'first principles' to support our responsibilities to uphold manaakitanga. They are Ihi, Ako, and Ora.

  • Ihi : Wellness
  • Ako: Education
  • Ora: Wellbeing

Ihi relates to 'intrinsic wellness', Ako to Education and Ora to wellbeing.

An Ako strategy is being developed to build on a number of Memoranda of Agreement and Understanding the Rūnanga holds with the Ministry of Education, Otago University and other education providers. The strategy will out line a Ngāti Whātua centred approach to education.

The Rūnanga undertakes a number of activities support Ora, both through provide direct services via Te Hā Oranga, and in the development of policy, advice and partnerships with health provides and other Iwi services in Northland and Auckland.
